Overview

Inspired by the Nick Giacomantonio's Heartland Tour where hundreds of cyclist from all over Nova Scotia pulled together to raise awareness about heart disease caused mainly by bad eating habits and the lack of exercise, Velo Cape Breton, supported by a slate of volunteers is presenting the Annual Northside "AC-8 or Across Canadian in 8 Hours.

"AC-8" is an 8-hour, 7000 km fun adventure Across Canada. Walk, Run or Bicycle a 6km loop in the Northside Industrial Park in North Sydney carrying the Cape Breton Flag on a simulated crossing of Canada from Coast to Coast.

AC-8 is a "health awareness" event. It is another opportunity specially tailored for the young and the young at heart, for families, for everyone concerned by the horrendous health records plaguing our Cape Breton Communities.

Ever ponder what exactly you can do in your neighbourhood to improve walkable and cyclable environments? Well, join Velo Cape Breton in this initiative to show your support to the creation of an Active Transportation Plan within CBRM, a first step to help improve the health of citizens and the environment.

This event is sponsored by organizations such as Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society, Hearth and Stroke Foundation, ACAP Cape Breton, YMCA Cape Breton, Cape Breton University Health and Wellness Centre, Nova Scotia Health Promotion and Protection, Association of Doctors for the Advancement of Physical Active Transportation (ADAPT), the Heart & Stroke Foundation (HSF), Northside Health Community Board, and several other health and fitness related agencies.
